Plant a row
Plant a row campaign
Every Spring, Madras Community Food Pantry invites all home gardeners to "Plant A Row" in their home garden for the needy in our community. These shared rows of fruits and vegetables will provide fresh, nutritious and healthy produce for our many neighbors who come to the Pantry to supplement their food needs.
As your "Row" is ready for harvest, your produce will be welcomed at the Pantry, located at 370 SW Culver Hwy., Madras, every Tues., Wed. and Thurs. from 10 am until 1pm.
For further information call the Pantry at 541 325-1747.
Resources
Although we have many seasoned gardeners in our community, there are others who would like to try helping in this way, but need some helpful "how-tos".
We have found many online resources to help, especially suited to our area:
Growing Vegetables in Central Oregon: This webinar includes the basics of growing vegetables in Central Oregon (Deschutes, Crook and Jefferson counties). Topics include climate and how that affects growing conditions, site selection, site preparation, crop selection, irrigation and more.
Central Oregon Garden Publications (OSU Extension Office): These guides are made for people in Crook, Deschutes and Jefferson counties and focus on the plants, soil and weather we have here. Use these resources to learn what grows well, how to care for your garden and how to handle Central Oregon’s unique challenges so you can grow with confidence.
Planting Calendar & Schedule for Madras, OR: This is a special 2026 Guide with dates for planting a variety of vegetables in Madras. Here in our county, there are 116 frost-free growing days beginning May 31 and ending September 24.
Thank you so much for helping us feed the community by planting your own row. Please spread the word and together, we can help alleviate hunger and food insecurity for those persons at risk living in Jefferson County.
Hunger is a story we can end, one garden at a time.
